On a quest for better produce, Santa Monica residents flocked to Mrs. Winston's Green Grocery when it first opened in 1987. Local farmers markets didn't exist and big grocery stores weren't offering organic options. Ed Winston recognized the need for quality local produce and launched a farm stand style market in Santa Monica, CA. He took his knowledge and experience from his years at Ralph's Grocery and came up with the idea for a small retail store with the fresh, organic goods. A place where locals could touch, feel, and smell the difference of high quality produce.

Fortunately, Ed didn’t have to look far to find his business partner. His mother, Mrs. Winston, would bring the enthusiasm this new venture required. With a keen eye and knack for detail, she exemplified the warm, local atmosphere of their new store, Mrs. Winston's.

Mrs. Winston had a love for fresh greens. When we first opened, she insisted we had to have a salad bar. Recognizing that customers were becoming busier and in need of a healthy fast food option. Our salad bar quickly became customer's favorite Salad Bar, earning the title of LA's Best Salad Bar by LA Magazine.

Food fads have come and gone in the three decades Mrs. Winston's has been in business. We have offered a Plant Based Cuisine from the very beginning, always focusing on the healthiest and freshest ingredients. We specialize in bringing handcrafted salads, sandwiches, smoothies, juices, and delicious soups to our health-conscious community. Each of our menu items are made daily, and with love by our dedicated teams.

We have expanded to four stores, including our newest location in downtown Los Angeles, which features a healthy taco bar with all homemade ingredients. Two of our stores feature juice bars and all carry fresh seasonal fruit as well as healthy snacks and groceries.

Mrs. Winston's Green Grocery has withstood the test of time. Today our healthy, local, and delicious offerings are available on many food delivery apps. Customers can now enjoy the in-store experience without leaving work or home. We still run Mrs. Winston’s Green Grocery today with our mother always in mind. Her spirit is in every last detail, from the freshness of the Salad Bar to the cleanliness of our store.
